IT'S A BOY!

We're having a son!

I always felt like I was going to have a boy.

I've been talking to him ever since I found out I was pregnant. I’d slip into using male pronouns and masculine terms of endearment like "Buddy" and it just felt right.

And now, we know for sure.

And knowing is SUCH a good feeling.

I got the call from the high risk OB's office this morning and when they asked if I wanted to know the gender, I raced into the bedroom to find John.

We heard the news together on speakerphone and we both screamed with joy, throwing our arms around one another and blowing out the eardrums of the poor lady on the other end of the phone.

A boy.

Our son.

Hey Will - it's Mom.

When we first got Indiana, people warned me to be consistent and refer to him by his name - Indiana or Indy - so he would come when called.

I paid no attention to that advice and called him a bunch of different nicknames - Bubs, Bug, Boog, Doc, Bonesy, Junior, Doctor Bonesington, Kid, Indiana Banana  - and he responds to every one of them.

Kid's a damn genius.

And fair warning, I'm gonna do the same to you.

But for the first few of months of your life - both in and out of utero - I'm going to say your name a million times.

Like it's sanctified.
Like it's a life preserver.
Like it's the only mantra I ever learned (sorry Mom).
Like it's my own incantation to protect and preserve and persevere.

Will - named for your Poppy and your Uncle Billy.

And maybe two of the funniest men who ever lived.

And possibly Daddy's favorite figure from Scottish history. Seriously, he quoted Braveheart in his wedding vows and it brought the house down.

(Now might be a good time to note that even though Mommy was born in England, when she tells you to eat your vegetables and clean your room, it’s not tyranny but y’know, parenting)

Will - the best thing Daddy and I ever did together. Right up there with adopting Indiana.

Will - our son.

My baby boy no matter how tall or old you get.

To quote your father who was quoting William Wallace - William John, I will love you my whole life.

See you soon.

We love you xx
