Birthday - Kings of Leon

Birthday - Kings of Leon

3.11.2020

For the past couple of years, I've bought presents for the dogs on my birthday.

This year, I bought Indiana more chewchies. That's what we call regulation lacrosse balls. The kid's obsessed with them and we're constantly finding them all over the house and yard in various states of chomped.

Since Indiana has been alive, I've probably spent $250 on lax balls. For that money, Bones better get a lax scholarship to Yale.

But it's one of my favorite traditions and I get to see my dogs happy.

I hope to continue this tradition with my kid and spend my birthday doing something special - exploring a new city, learning how to cook something complicated and delicious or just spending time at the dog beach in Juno, breathing in the salty air, telling Little Bird for the 10,000th time, "Look. This is where Daddy proposed to Mommy," and then, going out for the best huevos rancheros and cinnamon buns at the Hurricane Cafe.

Hey kiddo - it's Mom.

I have no idea when your birthday is yet but I promise that they're going to be a big deal.

I don't mean like, a million presents or a My Super Sweet Sixteen style luxury car with a giant bow on it (Mommy is old; these are her cultural touchstones). That's all just stuff and while it's nice - stuff doesn't matter. Not really.

What matters is the memories you make and the people you share them with.

I promise you that together, me, you and Daddy are going to make some amazing memories and I'm going to try my hardest to capture them all through pictures, video and words.

I’ve been journaling ever since I was young and it’s taken several permutations over the years - blog posts, scribbles in wirebound notebooks and little home movies.

In recent years, the home movies have chronicled our vacations and served more as a love letter to your dad than anything else.

Daddy and I have had a lot of adventures together.

On our honeymoon, we rode camels in Morocco and a few years before that, we rode horses in Colombia. We’ve gone white-water rafting, hiking and ziplining in Colorado, gotten lost somewhere in the backwoods of South Carolina, seen hundreds of concerts and when we were in Germany, Daddy rented a Porsche Targa and sped down the Autobahn…and got a ticket for his efforts.

These have all been incredible experiences but you know what?

You might just be our greatest adventure yet.

See you soon.

We love you xx
