This Weekend - Hurricane Dorian Edition
Spoon x Cage The Elephant x Beck - Night Running Tour 2019. Rum runners and dancing all night as the humidity of an August evening envelopes you like a wool blanket straight out of the washer.
Boarding up for the storm, the yearly echoing of, “We should really look into getting impact windows” and a little Harry Potter inspired graffiti in honor of the first day of term at Hogwarts.
BEBE TURTLE RESCUE! John found him trying to cross the street and we released him into the pond behind Mom’s house. We named him Trevor and I love him.
Homegrown rosemary - pairs perfectly with seeded baguettes from Colombino’s and in a simmer pot made with orange peel, cloves, cinnamon and almond extract.
Flanigan’s - a green beacon of hope for any South Floridian. Hurricanes, break-up or just watching the Dolphins shit the bed again because Dolphins gonna Dolphins, Flanigan’s is there for you - with wings, curly fries and those huge plastic cups. Do you even really live in South Florida if you don’t have like, six of those in your home at any given time?
Hunkering down with the dogs, a mug of really strong Ceylon and the cool sounds of Chet Baker floating through the house.
Storm rolling in over Palm Beach.
Floridians were really lucky during this storm but the same cannot be said for our friends in the Bahamas, just 100 miles from where I sit right now.
If you have the means, please consider donating to World Central Kitchen - Chef José Andrés’ non-profit dedicated to food first response in areas hit by both man-made and natural disasters. They do great work and already have boots on the ground in the Bahamas.
Everyone deserves the dignity of a hot meal cooked with love. Especially after experiencing trauma like this.
