Rest in Peace, Eddie Money
I just found out Eddie Money died. He was 70.
For the past two years, the tagline to my work Skype account has been, "Take Me Home Tonight by Eddie Money is the greatest song in the American pop canon."
Including Two Tickets to Paradise, I can name like, two Eddie Money songs but there’s something about Take Me Home Tonight which reverberated inside me.
It is a love song nested in a love song to a girl who sang love songs - a mille-feuille of pop music, the gospel according to Ronnie.
I love that so much.
While Mr. Money may have been a follower of the Gospel of Ronnie, I am an apostle of the Gospel of Bruce and this, like so many things, reminded me something he said during his stint on Broadway:
Life is short but a good song? That’ll live forever.
Rest in peace, friend. May lights guide you home.
